Shabiha Nishi
Hi, I'm Nishi from Queens, NY and I am an AgTech entrepreneur building NYC's First Women Wellness Farm. As a woman who has personally struggled with menstrual health issues and navigated the challenges of accessing holistic remedies in an urban environment, I am on a journey to grow nutritious food that help alleviate menstrual symptoms. My journey led me to discover the powerful benefits of red clover microgreens in managing menstrual health issues. I am exploring sustainable agriculture focused on women's health through the design, technology, and innovation of growing red clover microgreens hydroponically.
There is a lack of accessible, nutritious foods that can help alleviate menstrual symptoms and promote women's health in urban areas. It primarily affects women and girls in New York City, particularly those experiencing period poverty or menstrual health issues. This occurs due to limited awareness of natural remedies for menstrual health and insufficient access to nutrient-dense foods that can support hormonal balance.
Build indoor vertical red clover microgreens farms near food banks or women’s shelters.
My farm will focus on growing red clover microgreens, which are known for their health benefits for women. Red clover microgreens are rich in isoflavones (which can help balance hormones and ease PMS symptoms), calcium, iron, magnesium, antioxidants, potassium, and Vitamins A, B-12, C, E, and K. My farm will serve women and girls in NYC with menstrual health issues such as PMDD and those experiencing period poverty.
My farm will implement water-efficient hydroponic systems to reduce water usage, utilizing energy-efficient LED grow lights, partnering with local women's organizations for distribution to minimize transportation emissions, and offering educational programs on sustainable urban farming and women's health.
Developed a plant API to assist farm workers in early identification of plant diseases and facilitate treatment measures
Designed my dream farm by implementing sustainable farming techniques to grow red clover microgreens that help support hormonal balance.
Built and presented and AI app I built with Decoded Futures: a guide to creating a custom hydroponic set up in your home depending on your budget constraints, available time and space.
Built beekeeping skills through hive checks and inspection, colony management techniques, disease and pest identification/mitigation, and proper handling of beekeeping equipment
Designed and built a sustainable community garden bench for El Coqui Liberation Community Garden to promotes social interaction and urban agriculture.
Empowering New Yorkers on how to build affordable hydroponic systems that bring fresh greens into their homes. These workshops demystify hydroponic technology and that they don't need expensive equipment or extensive gardening knowledge to start growing their own food - just curiosity and basic household tools
